Are the recipes suitable for kids?

All kids are different, and we respect how challenging it is for parents to prepare a healthy meal that the kids will eat. We don't have a secret weapon, but we can help make it easier.

We tag recipes that kids are more likely to enjoy as Kid Friendly. These recipes may still include an ingredient that is "too full of flavour" for some, but it can be cooked in a way where the adults can have a slightly different taste profile to the kids.

Introduce new flavours, but always have a safe option

At You Plate It, we believe it's necessary to introduce children to a variety of different foods. We think that the adults should only cook a single dinner. Present the food, but have one "safe" option that you know your child will eat.

Get the kids invested by letting them select (and even cook) the recipes

One of the best ways we've been able to get kids and young adults to eat new foods is by getting them invested in the process. We have discovered that when a young person is responsible for selecting the recipe and has the opportunity to be responsible for its preparation, they are way more likely to eat it and more likely to be adventurous in their tastes.

You can see this philosophy in the menu and our grocery section

Mark's two daughters enjoy very different foods, but he and the family eat You Plate It meal kits almost every night of the week (not Tuesdays, which is dinner with friends, and not Friday which is something a little less "healthy"). The girls have different "safe foods" but we make sure they have something. For example, Elsie loves lasagna, but Rachel does not. In the grocery section, the GoldenRavioli lasagna comes with a yummy caesar salad so that Rachel has something she eats while everyone else demolishes the lasagna.
